Yeah, I would like some type of waterfall feature coming off the mound; it'll be fed from a pump which I plan on keeping in the shed. From what I've read, for a bog filter to be effective the flow of water passing through can't be too fast; so I may have to re-think the layout. Maybe two lines from the pump; the higher flow rate to feed the waterfall and the slower to feed the bog filter. Heck maybe I'll scratch the bog filter altogether; use the pond plants to do the dirty work, supplemented by a couple of 50 gallon totes full of scrubbies...

One pump w/ a wye or two pumps.....

Like you said run the smaller pump, or restricted line to the bog. Still use a lot of plants for water quality and asthetics. Try to incorporate the bog, but if it doesn't work then just load up the pond w/plants.

Well I think I am finished with the majority of the digging; except for the edging and detailing of the shelves. I am leaning heavily towards keeping that 2nd shelf, which will be approx. 2' deep. I may not have that shelf extend the whole width, as it is now, but I may cut it back to the corner in a wedge shape. I may deepen that end a bit more for the drain, possible another 6-12".

I'm seeing a trend here...

Tell the truth now...You don't care about the pond at all....You just like digging! Right?!

If you eliminate part of the shelf, remember you will have to fold the liner and it could be tricky in mid stream.

As a longtime infantry type I looove to see people dig! DIG DIG DIG! As soon as you get that pond filled youre going to think.."Maybe I shouldve gone down another foot ....?"

Looking good though. I cant wait to move so I can start a simillar project. Then you guys can watch me dig!

I did'nt think about the extra folds in the liner; thanks for the tip Dr. Joe. I will probably keep the shelf the way it is, if I decide to keep it at all.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while; been busy with work, the wife's bathroom, etc. I have done some work on the pond though- leveled out the top edges for the liner, cleaned up the shelves a bit, found some good diy filter plans (skippy filter), found a 20 x 30 epdm liner for $240, bought a couple dozen pond plants (irises, lillies, pickerel weed, bloddy dock, cannas, horsetail rushes, etc). My next purchase is the pump; still undecided about that one. I have looked at some pool pumps for about $250-300; a local pool supply has some-no wait, no shipping or handling charges. I am still going to do more research before I buy.

However, there's never a dull moment at my house; I found a small leak on my 700...:wall: It's at the bottom of one of my front windows; not sure how it happened, but the layers of plywood are starting to separate from the moisture. I tried to stop the leak with some epoxy and some construction adhesive, but to no avail. So, realizing that the front panel is probably doomed to failure I decided not to wait until the last minute and bought a pool from wal mart. It's a 12' round x 30"; approx 1800 gallons. It'll have to do til the pond is done...I am pissed about that tank; I put a lot of work into that bad boy. Oh well, I'll figure out that one later; the fish are the main concern, the pool will do nicely for a few weeks... now the trick is to keep the kids out of it!!!:nilly: I will post pics tomorrow...

Good choice on the plants BTW. All are super hardy and will make that pond look great. If using lilies, think about digging some depressions in the soil prior to liner install.
