Stealth Heater Problems

I bought two 250W Stealth heaters about a year and a half ago.. Three months ago one of them overheated and ruptured. (killing my fish  )

When I talked to the owner of the LFS he said he had quit selling them a year ago due to the many returns, mostly for the same problem.

Now I'm wondering if I should trash the other one before I lose more fish.

The photo is of the ruptured heater.

I would definitly say trash it, unless you want some steamed fish like Wet Whiskers.

I have had horrible luck with them. One nearly killed my bichir species tank when it stuck on :( Out of the 5 or 6 (I think 6) that I have owned 3 died in the first year. 2 from staying on and one from a stray electrical charge. I am willing to admit some of this could have been my fault but I treated them just like you would treat a glass heater. They were all sized accordingly as well.
As per 12voltmans suggestion I have since switched to EboJager and love them.

Sounds like Stealths used to made to a much higher standard than they are now. Chasin that almighty dollar, I guess. I've always used Hydor Theos...

to be honest, I am not really a fan of the quality of any marineland products.

I guess I am just disappointed that when they took over Perfecto, instead of improving the build quality of perfecto tanks like I had hoped they would, they just stayed the same - thinner glass than Aqueon/Oceanic uses, flimsy cross braces, thinner seals..:(

they bevelled the glass edges of the perfecto tanks and thats the only improvement they made..

their "deep dimension" line of tanks are made very well however, but why couldn't they make the rest of the lineup to that standard?

then again, they cost a fortune even for the smallest size (150g) so I guess thats why..

That my friend is how I got 120 volts sent through me when I stuck my hand in the water.

I have tried other heaters but Jager heater are the best. I Currently have 13 tanks setup they all have Jager heaters. I have not had a single failure in the last 10 years.

So who has the best prices on Ebo Jager? I think I am going to switch out the Stealth.
