I agree that sturgeon are a cold water fish, and yet I find this thread incredibly interesting. Saying that the reason sturgeon dont live in south america is due to temperature is also a complete guess. Many other factors to consider and you can't just say that - as is shown sturgeon are being bred in the tropics. If a fish breeds, its happy. General rule. Getting to those locations is more likely the issue PAIRED with stressful environmental conditions upon arrival.

You're all quite comical with these excuses... The fact is, Sturgeon CAN live in tropical temperatures, mine is and other people have said it... You can post on here that they can't but me and some others are the ones that have living proof, and saying it will die in 6 months is simply a way of avoiding being wrong, ill come back next month, and the months after, let's see what excuses you can think of by then.. Maybe my sturgeon has magic genes that allow it to live in warm water? The fact is that an animal like fish especially will show signs if something is wrong, and my sturgeon is thriving.

;)

I support Your vision! My biggest personal Peeve with this Site. Is the lecture circuit, and the ensuing insults that usually evolve from discussions like this. As far as cons, the other side has raised some very valid points. And I hope You consider some of them. I do know that if I owned a sturgeon there would not be an Oscar in the Tank with it. Temperature aside, I know enough about them to know How precious of a species they are. I would want to do everything that I could to emulate their natural environment. The responsibility of owning such a fish requires "It" to be the centerpiece. And everything should be done by plan and not default As you have done here. I hope that You continue to do research and "Learn This Fish" As I would rather discuss all the reasons that you can/should be able to keep it alive rather than it dying.

I can breed sturgeons on land with injection of hormons. Breeding does not mean that a fish is happy. Sturgeons are not bred in tropical environments. Caviar is produced in russia, germany, scandinavia, azerbaijan, iran, UK. In all those countries are cold temps. Best caviar comes from Iran and is produced only in the north of Iran at Mazandaran. Its a huge industrial sector there. If Iran could house sturgeons in warmer water, they could do it in all their country. But its not working. And i assure you, no one should ever keep a sturgeon together with oscars...
