Thanks for this info.. i was asking this question many times and finally just posted it but you said it clear as day.. someday they will just do what comes natural and the tank mates will be no more..so i will continue to scrap the idea of adding any fish other then the plecos and syn. cat thats in there with him now.. Do you think my Adonis is in danger in the near future? Oh By the way mine is a 24 inch silver.. is there really much difference between the species of Arrow's?

Yes.

Silver aros can be kept with many tankmates. They are no where near as aggressive as jardini.

I don't think you will have any trouble at all keeping the adonis with the silver. You shouldn't have any troubles adding other tankmates with your silver aswell. It is only the jardini that is really aggressive.

I only read the first page.

can S.Jardini be kept with S.Leichardti?

Very bad idea.

I wouldn't recommend it.

How about introducing a 16inch jardini to my tank with a 20 inch silver and motoro stingrays? I would love to see that!

Rod

I wouldn't recommend that either.

There would be problems with the silver and jardini.

Having said that...it can be done...it has been done.

Its just unlikely.

Ok thanks.

Reason why?

They both occupy the same swimming area therefore territorial issues will occur.

Unless you have an extremely large tank I cannot see it working.

hi all, this is my first post and it's an area i have a little experience in
i've had my jardini for a few years and he's about 12" long now
from day one he's shared a 6 foot tank with one plec about the same length as him and 4 Synodontis eupterus about 5 inches long now, the tank he's kept in is very heavily planted and the synodonts have plenty of hiding places, he loves chasing them but so far he's never killed any of them. not so for any of his other tankmates, a little while ago i thought i'd try some 6 inch silver sharks thinking they were fast and they'd easilyget away. i was wrong, i started with 7 about three weeks ago and i'm watching him right now trying to corner the last one, it'll be dead by tomorrow. so far as i can figure if the tankmates are relatively fast but more importantly don't occupy the same level of the tank as my aro, they're alright. the silver sharks would dart into the mass of plants but they would return out to the open a few seconds later, the catfish stay hidden till the aro cools down. he still tries to do bad things to them but they're fat and healthy and tho they treat the aro with respect, they never cower in the corner

Keeping a jardini in a community tank is like keeping a wolf in a sheeps pen! Anybody that thinks it will work is fooling themselves. Just because its nice at 5 inches does not mean it will not slaughter everything at two foot! Keeping a jardini with other arros is almost impossible... these fish do not tolerate similar species. Keeping a jardini with knives is not possible, I tried it and it tore the knife to ribbons so badly that it actually had bones sticking out and that happened in one night. Just because a fish lives on the bottom doesnt mean that a jardini will leave it alone because it doesnt occupy the same tank space as it! These fish will mercilessly pick out one victim after another until it has removed everything from its territory. I believe that predatory catfish with nasty spines are the only viable option. If it fits in its mouth, is not poisonous and has no spines it will get eaten. If it doesnt fit in its mouth and has no defence mechanisms (teeth and hiding are not good enough defence mechanisms, they just delay the inevatible) then it will be svcaled and gutted for you by the jardinis razor like teeth and massive jaws. Just because its been done does not mean its a good idea! I read every post on this thread and everyone said bad things about this fish, except for a few, and the majority of those few only had juvinile jardinis, the remainder were just very, very lucky. I dont know how difficult it is to get a jardini over there but here in Australia they are easy to get so its just not worth keeping.

Having said all that we are the monster fish keepers! We keep the fish everyone else is too scared to! There is nothing more impressive than watching a jardini tear into a hole bunch of goldfish. I personally enjoy keeping the meanest fish I can find, but it was a choice between a Chitala lopis or a jardini. In Australia the lopis is an impossibility to get while the jardini will always be there, so that is why I chose the lopis.

I moved my very aggressive, 18-inch Jardini to a 600-gallon aquarium tank measuring 8 feet by 4 feet by 30 inches high with some success. His 15 tank mates were large Oscars, Jaguars, Pacu, Marbled Sailfin and Tiger Shovelnose Catfish. During the 8-month Jardini visit in the 600, I observed neither aggression nor chasing of its tank mates. The Jardini is feeding well on large floating 3/8” pellets and hot dogs.

I moved the Jardini back to my 180-gallon aquarium and all appeared well for several weeks; however he is back to his prior behavior and all fish in the tank have been terrorized. I do not know if the Jardini was a problem for the fish in the 600-gallon aquarium and I just missed it however, I am going to move ”the thing” back to the 600 and I will be watching more attentively.

Any number of monster fish keepers have offered to tank my Red Spotted Jardini if it is too aggressive for me. Do they know something they are not telling me? Is there something available like Jardini Prozac?
