just posted this in the MFK ink thread but i'll post here too.

Alright folks here is my Octopus/Sharks sleeve in progress.
about 15 hours so far, all freehand drawn on skin with marker before tattooing.

My whole left side of my body is going to be all water related in a neo-Japanese style.. Getting a bunch koi fish and koi dragon on my chest/stomach/ribs And I want to get my fav Gold Nugget Pleco who died in there somewhere too! possibly a Aro as well.

If you really want a nice quality piece that will age well do your research and find the BEST artist in your area who Specializes in the style of tattoo you want. Do not cheap out! good tattoos are not cheap! Also most reputable artists are booked up at least a few months in advance these days due to how trendy and popular Tattooing is at the moment.

please stay away from Kanji, tribal and arm bands!!! I swear 80% of the people who get these tattoos just want a tattoo but do not know what so they get the old tribal or kanji off the wall. also most first timers try to cram waaaaaay too much meaning into there first tattoo, the old saying trying to cram, 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag!

Find your artist bring him some ideas maybe some reference pics and let him/her run wild with it!! I guarantee you will get a tattoo that is waaay better than what you first envisioned it to be!

I have been getting inked steady for 11 years now and the only thing I regret is the BS tattoo artists I went to when i was 18-25 before I knew better! Got more than half my back done that needs to be lightened by laser and covered!

I've got a 3/4 sleeve of a Myo-o and 3 oni's. If you don't know what that is try using google.

sorry for the crappy pics. it's hard to take pics of your own tattoos.

no doubt your work looks nice, but you cant go around calling tats that people are proud to have on their body crap F'in tastic. who are you to judge what is good or not, when its not even yours? i mean shure we all have opinions but keep it to yourself when somebody has something on their body they cannot change. i have a tat i hate, but i like my others that are crude, cheap, and look like shiet. they remind me of me!

you know what its like to have bad work done, do you enjoy spreading that feeling to others now?

I agree with the previous poster that,"Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder." Here's a couple tats I have on my ankle. One is obviously a tribal band that another poster would put down. Now if I told you I got it 25 years ago when no one knew what tribal was, that I designed it or, that it actually spells a girls name, would that change your mind? The one above it is a clown fish in an anenome for my sister, the diver, who has passed. Its all in the eye of the beholder.

your outline is clean, but where's the color? At least the "crap" tattoos are finished.

tattoo snobs are funny. It's not like you did it. Your artist deserves some props, but you just sat there...

lol everybody taking it personal and getting defensive now!!

If you read my post you would see it says in progress,
and all tattoos have to have color do they?? didnt know that mate!
Big tattoos take alot of time and commitment the average sleeve is probably around 30-50 hours of tattooing and thousands of dollars.
its all good tho take cheap shots at me I dont mind:)

I'm not posting here to brag about my work or anything like that. just giving the tattoo snobs like me some more work to look at and maybe give some ideas inspirations to others.

Now to the first response

I do and I can. I call it how I see it.

you are entitled to your own opinion... and MINE!! haha

you could come up to me and say some of my work looks like I got butchered and I wont cry or get defensive over it! I'll say yes its true this tattoo looks like ****.
a good tattoo is a good tattoo, I'm talking technically here I don't care if I don't like the style or design.

People show me there "amazing" tattoos all the time on the street I will try to tell them in the nicest way possible that they should find a new tattoo artist. Some even brag how cheap they got it for yadda yadda. I never had somebody get mad or cry over what I say to them.

Most of the general public have no idea what a quality tattoo should look like. I know I never did in the beginning. Jsut trying to wake some ppl up that there is more to tattooing than just walking into a greasy biker shop and picking flash off the wall.

They have frickin tattoo schoools now in the states and almost any fool can start a tattoo studio up and start butchering people.
I honestly believe in this day and age if you are not bringing something to the table artistically you should not be tattooing! this **** is on you for life I hate to see people without the knowledge get piss poor ink!

another thing that irks me out is these clowns who get all tattooed up then lay on the beach all summer and turn all the nice work and money spent into a faded mess!

I got this buddy who has a bunch of bad work done. Now hes getting a full sleeve from a friend who just started to tattoo( bought a kit and just started inking all his friends). I try to tell him to go see this shop or that shop, but he just says bro i'm getting it for free! well you get what you pay for I guess!

but in retrospect we all get what we deserve
and one Artist told me everybody who has a lot of nice tattoo work usually has some crap on them too somewhere!

different strokes for different folks I guess. You should treat your tattoo artist like you treat your doctor/dentist. you wouldnt get your buddy to do a root canal on you to save some money now would you!

anyways probably gone way off topic here just ranting lol.
