Hey, this is my first post on MFK. The first few pics are my leg, Great Barrier Reef. The second last picture is of my arm, maple leaf with Fleur De Lis. The last pic is my other arm, a tribal sun/Ouroboros.

My next ink will be the Amazon Rainforest on my left leg.

Here are my two bigger pieces.

The sparrow is for my grandmother (as cliche as the grandparent-tattoo things can sound). I researched the symbolism behind them and it was pretty coincidental that she was really into sparrow art, but was also a person who offered me protection and guidance during childhood. I grew up without a father so she had the opportunity to be alot closer to me. I got the tattoo in 2007 after she died.

The lotus's colors have settled and have more orange and pink now.
I want to expand the piece into a half sleeve with symbols from Asian philosophies, mainly Daoism. I studied Asian philosophy/religion for a semester before going to China and it really struck a chord with me.

just posted this in the MFK ink thread but i'll post here too.

Alright folks here is my Octopus/Sharks sleeve in progress.
about 15 hours so far, all freehand drawn on skin with marker before tattooing.

My whole left side of my body is going to be all water related in a neo-Japanese style.. Getting a bunch koi fish and koi dragon on my chest/stomach/ribs And I want to get my fav Gold Nugget Pleco who died in there somewhere too! possibly a Aro as well.

And not to be a dick or diss anybody but alot of work posted is pretty much crap ****in tastic.

If you really want a nice quality piece that will age well do your research and find the BEST artist in your area who Specializes in the style of tattoo you want. Do not cheap out! good tattoos are not cheap! Also most reputable artists are booked up at least a few months in advance these days due to how trendy and popular Tattooing is at the moment.

please stay away from Kanji, tribal and arm bands!!! I swear 80% of the people who get these tattoos just want a tattoo but do not know what so they get the old tribal or kanji off the wall. also most first timers try to cram waaaaaay too much meaning into there first tattoo, the old saying trying to cram, 10lbs of crap into a 5lb bag!

Find your artist bring him some ideas maybe some reference pics and let him/her run wild with it!! I guarantee you will get a tattoo that is waaay better than what you first envisioned it to be!

I have been getting inked steady for 11 years now and the only thing I regret is the BS tattoo artists I went to when i was 18-25 before I knew better! Got more than half my back done that needs to be lightened by laser and covered!
You just stuffed 10 lbs of your opinion into a 5 lbs bag of STFU...........

You don't like my ink on page 5 huh boss, just because it has 2 of the three things you warn against? For the record my first tat was the hot rod emblem and striping. All my ink comes from one the most reputable artists in Oregon. All the progress on my upper right sleeve was free hand by him including the kanji... I said what was in my head and he put pen to ink, literally...

JK47 I think the tribal and kanji are cool cuz they are done creatively and I mean if you are really into tattoos and love that stuff then go for it. Its just I think a lot of tattoo newbies see all these ppl with the reg bold black tribal and kanji stuff and think thats all you can get so they end up getting the same when they could of at least gotten creative with it and come up with something a little different. Most of the kanji being done in street shops is off a flash set and ends up being buggered up and meaning something else unless the artist is educated in that area.

The sleeve looks like it should be a cool idea. I like the pin stripping idea love pin stripping myself but I think its not too aesthetically pleasing behind the chrome V8. Not a fan of chrome tattoos unless they look realistic either.

if you plan on getting more work done you should check out http://claewelch.com/ in portland... amazing stuff there. lots of good tattoo artists around portland. Also up in Seattle is full of mutant tattoo artists that do really nice work.

who is the artist/shop you go too?? jsut curious might of heard of 'em

and come on man u gotta admit some of the **** posted here looks like chicken scratch!

its kinda like if you own this beat up piece of a Chevy Nova and you go cruising on a Sunday telling everybody check out my clean azz ride right here!! of course somebody is gonna tell u u own a hunk of twisted metal!

Bl00 that lotus is clean man nice work.
