I would sand vac it before adding fish. When I set up my tank with live sand on top I noticed a fine layer of silt settled on the top and I left it. When I added the Huma Huma trigger he swam around and kicked it all up and the tank was cloudy again.

I brushed it around as much as possible and probably ruined my fx5 but i know what you mean. Its almost as picked up, at the cost of possibly break the impeller but it worked.

I thought so in the middle too. I redid them in the middle and decided it ruined the long rock wall thing i had going on. It looked to cramped in the middle. These where my same thoughts though. I plan on "beefing" up the middle with more aditional rock.
