Very cool one of my favorite fishes.
I was thinking with a small tank having them species only would help trigger breeding! I only breed plecos but think your idea is awesome keep in touch!

Absolutely amazing. Does the seller who got your friend this fish still have them? I have a goal to conserve some native Indonesian fish, and maybe I could try with Chitala lopis?
If you are in Indonesia I can put you in touch with some people who might be able to help you accomplish this. I’m in the states and these were extremely difficult to get my hands on at the time.

Rare fish and predatory fins have decent sized ones in stock currently going for $1200 I believe.

I am currently continuing to put weight on the fish. Unfortunately things have stagnated and I’ve been far too busy to update this thread until something huge happens. I will note that the large confirmed female and one of the smaller possible males have been spending a lot of time together, always checking for eggs.

getting time in the lab to work on the genetics side of things has been going slow as well. Best case scenario I will have some great info to share by the end of this year. thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter was also nice enough to allow me to take some samples from his C. ornata to use as outgroups+ possibly used in some work revolving around introduced population of clown knives. I’m hoping to get the ball rolling again next month and see how things pan out. Everything is ready, just waiting on a few supplies

As for new additions in the tank, I added a group of Puntioplites falcifer, got them from predatory fins. Only one of the trio purchased made it, but is thankfully doing quite well. Was not the biggest fan of how they were packed but I believe the majority of the issues came from when the package got delayed for an extra day, they need high DO and don’t ship too well typically.

Dream fish of mine though, so it really makes me love the tank even moreIMG_7901.jpeg

Hope you got a refund or credit on the two that died in transit. Would love to see a pic of your other fish as well

Unfortunately no, they survived transit and were doing okay for around two days or so but I think the stress ended up getting to them, it happens but still isn’t fun. I’ll try to post photos of the other fish more often
