The other thing I would recommend is creating a sense of depth with the sand and rocks. If you can, try to build up the sand a bit higher in the back, so it slopes downward towards the front of the tank. Put the very largest rocks primarily in the back (although don't do it too uniform, because that will look unnatural too!).

I've seen this done on smaller planted tanks and it looks great, but not on larger not so planted tanks.. I'm sceptical about what it will look like.. but it won't hurt to give it a try...

aaaaaaaannnnnnd! I just painted the back black... and it looks super sleek.. I'm gonna give it one more coat before I put any pictures up..

Thanks again for your input!!

Because I can basically, besides there's nothing better than having an extra seeded filter around when you need it... that's the biggest reason I do it.. and I love the fact that I can overfilter. .. just cause I wanna!

I finally did it! and it makes me feel so much better.. I looks really good, or to me it does.. I ended up with black paint all over me, like a litte freaken kid! Because I had to reach as far as I could behind the tank, I even ended up with some in my arm pits..!!!!

I used Olympia, it's the most environmentally friendly brand.. or that's what the chick a Lowes said.. and really it had no smell at all..

I thought that when I painted the back, my Fluval heater would refect the color... that's what the packaging says it's supposed to do... boo hoo!!

Like my DIY rolling pan??
