I think there's many more than just red devils and synspilum, although there probably in the mix.
I really don't think severums are in the mix, never saw any hybrids of them. But unless we breed parrots we'll probably never know.

Dude... We all know BP came from crossing Midas and a Leprechaun... You can also throw a Unicorn in the mix to get killin parrots...
WRONG, everyone knows Unicorns are extinct. They spliced in Loch Ness DNA to make the Kilins.

So the age old question has been answered. I just got a female Synspilum I just gotta find a male midas her size to make my own. Judging from the pics they make a wide variety of different shaped fish you can get parrots, rosequeens or god knows what else with a little line breeding. Cool thread almost sticky worthy just needs another spawn for confirmation.

I am currently looking for case where a Synspilum has bred with any Amphilophus.

This was not entirely what I was looking for but it does back up that its Synspilum and not Severum. This person crossed a male Synspilum with a female ZZ Flowerhorn. http://parrotcichlid.com/node/15181

You might be saying "Well thats a Flowerhorn and not a Midas/Red Devil!" Well ZZ Flowerhorn are for the most part Amphilophus, they are based heavily on Trimac (Amphilophus Trimaculatus) and Midas (Amphilophus Citrinellus). So you could probably use any Amphilophus and still get the parrot shape when crossing with Vieja Synspilum or any Vieja for that matter.

Crossing the 2 created Kilin/Kirin Parrots which is basically a Parrot with Flowerhorn markings.

Is that directed at me and the Synspilum people or the Severum people because me and Pikey0151 brought the proof.
haha exactly. you can't get more proof than the thread we was discussing.

When I first started this hobby I thought they where a cross of the sev and red devil. but if that was true then there would be more crosses of sevs.

I do believe in the midas x synspilum. just my opinion. :nilly:
