How come male parrots are sterile then? I mean if a parrot is simply a hybrid then I don't understand. I thought a parrot was not a true cichlid more like a man made fish.

The Blood Parrot and what not are hybrids but there is the I think it's scientific name is Hoplarchus Psittacus......not sure on spelling that was originally a "Parrot" cichlid common name

If you hybridize inside the genus the fish are so closely related that most of the fry will be fertile but when you hybridize outside the genus the fish are not a close genetically so you encounter sterility.

So Midas (Amphilophus Citrinellus) x Trimac (Amphilophus Trimaculatus) would mean most or all the fry are fertile.

But Midas (Amphilophus Citrinellus) x Red Head (Vieja Synspilum) would make few fertile fry.

What's with crooked mouths and the troubled swimming of the parrots?
Too much inbreeding is that what cause crooked mouths but nearly all parrots I saw dont have any troubled swimming. Interestingly Rose Queen is basically same fish as Blood Parrot in genetically speaking.

None of my blood parrots have trouble swimming. And their mouths look perfectly non-crookedly cute to me.

Not sure about all the breeding details, but my parrot has grown into a masterpiece. Great mouth, eats massivore, gold orange color and beautiful spangled fins. Ill post pics soon. She has no freaky traits, looks and swims just like any other fish.

yeh I was thinking its inbreeding too, but how can they inbreed in nearly
all male parrots are infertile?
Have you heard the linebreeding? I believe that they used inbred Midas/Red Devil to inbred Redhead with shortbody traits, that's how you get BP. However it's all depends on the parents' orgins as they might not be highly inbred as you might have best broodstock with good genetics to produce Rose Queens, KK, Super Red BP and low grade "walmart/petco" parrots..etc it's all in genetics.
