My silver aro is now about 23 inches long and I was thinking what makes an aro jump the tank.
So I spent a bit of time studying aro to see what would make them jump. Thankfully mine has not, though it gets really ticked when I clean the tank. And when I am about to put food in it goes into its natural coil and release pose. After watching a few videos and reading up on them I came to a thought.
If the top for the tank is not see through will an aro still try to launch itself at something it perceives as food. Since in nature they go vertical and coil and then shoot out of the water to hit things on the branches above, I came to a conclusion that perhaps some of the aro who have jumped had a fly or something go on the top and the aro was just trying to eat it.
To this end I am going to try to black out the top of the tank except where the light is so that the aro can not see the space above the tank. I wanted to drop this thought in this thread to see what yall thought of this.
