The Dreaded Aurnati Fungus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the well wishes, Petspoiler.

The fuzziness has gone down, but is still present. They look more like open red sores now; I'll take that as a positive sign. I'll continue at the same dosages today, but I might up them slightly tomorrow.

I got two of these same time Dev C did and mine ended up dieing due to not knowing how to use and than maybe using to late, Best of luck man keep the Mela and Peima up it will go away , and as Dev said once everything is gone try another week to be safe :)

That is a great sign bottles! The MG is killing the fungus and the 3X is preventing infection, this is now where the sulfa should start to shine. As you increase the hardness and Ph the MG will become much less toxic and also work better as will the sulfa. If you want to increase dosage add one more cap full of MG and two more packages of 3X. Have you tested the water? What are your current parameters? I strongly feel the same water parameters that allow the meds to be at their most effective is the same water parameters that is inhospitable to the water mold, this stuff likes acidic conditions and the further away from that you get the less this can tolerate. You are doing a great job treating these fish, from here I can only make suggestions, curing these fish is ultimately in your hands. As you can tell I'm 100% vested along with you in effecting a cure for this. Pimafix and Melafix I'm afraid are like trying to treat a severed artery with Neosporin under these conditions. I’ve just spent the last 2 hours reading everything I could find on the internet about Achlya klebsiana and I know we are on the right track with this treatment. I know I’m getting long winded here but I can’t emphasize enough the importance of not only choosing the correct medication and or combination in this case for the job but also using it in the correct dosage and under the correct conditions. Slow and steady wins the race.

I'm just curious where/ how you determined it is Achlya klebsiana ? Either way the information on the med's is sound and treatment seems to be working. I'm just curious as to the original source, I'd like to read more on it, I've heard this infection be attributed to a few different fungal and fungal/bacterial infections but have not seen the documents/tests that came to that conclusion and i'd really like to learn more on it ,

Thanks,

These are a couple of articals I read but I can't find the one I was looking for. It was about achlya sp endemic to the area these fish come from and is common in the soil around marshes and rice pattys it also infects plants and the fish come in contact with it often. Imported fish are known carriers. However it is not to say by a long shot that it is the only fungus thaey are suseptable too, however in newly imported fish it is the most likly candadate. I will try to find the artical I read yesterday, I should have book marked it.

Sorry to hear about your Aurantis. I'm using Maracide and Triple Sulfa right now and seeing a slight improvement. Mine don't look as bad as yours do in the pics, but mine still look pretty rough.

Thanks for all the help and effort you've put in to helping me with these guys. They are slowly improving and hopefully I can kill it off completely. I'll try to post up the water parameters tonight before I do the WC and retreat. Hopefully the PH should be up around 6.9-7 and the KH should be up around 4-5. I'll up the dosage a little tonight.

Sorry I can't help but I would just like to say this sounds too much like work raising these snakeheads. Thanks to information I got from -DC- I made an informed decision to not purchase these types of snakeheads. I am sure glad the choice was right for me as I would have been out $500 with no fish to show for in the end. Did these come from a vendor in BC?

Very useful thread for all auranti keepers. Excelente info here.

Bottles,
good the know they are better. Keep up the good work

I wish the same, Bottles, with all my heart!
and great info, Tom!
