Good info as usual. Apparently our midas never got the memo his hump almost seems to continue to grow. Hes the only male midas in the tank there are males of other breed wonder if he sees all males the same. We have a really aggresive red devil a friend gave us. In that tank though the female actually has the larger hump and for a while I thought we had 2 males until they spawned. Once again RD you prove you are a wealth of knowledge.

And just to demonstrate how even a lone aggro male can develop a massive nuchal hump, check this bad boy out. Perhaps the largest nuchal hump that I have ever seen on a citrinellus.
The previous link doesn't appear to be working since the latest upgrade, so I wanted to add some photos of Ken's F1 A. citrinellus that he got years ago from Jeff Rapps. Glad I saved these pics. The nuchal hump on this fish still blows me away.

That Midas looks like he's going to tip over.

I used to find the nuchal humps on a lot of cichlids grotesque and ugly.

Now they've...

...grown on me.
