Take this boxing isn't dying junk to the boxing thread.
I agree kind of with Sumo.

I don't think Boxing is dying...yes it's changed. Pre-80's it was mainly heavy weight, then the other classes came(light weight, feather weight). I can't even tell you who the last heavy weight champ was...or if there is even one now.

Boxing has survived the mma or ufc stuff. I'm a TV channel surfer and I see boxing on TV all the time (Showtime, HBO, sports channel or a mexican channel).

Martin Murray is one tough guy.:)
He is, and if he actually through some punches he could have made a fight out of it. The rope a dope tactic didn't work and after the 5th round the ref was looking for any reason to stop the fight for fear he would land a lucky punch and take the cash cow out of future purses. That's the way boxing works, there is a predetermined winner and you have to beat him, he doesn't have to beat you. Golovkin is the money so he will be protected at all cost if you don't beat him soundly you will not win.

That's what I said in the other thread............it's sad but true. If you are into boxing and follow it you know the guys fighting now, years ago you didn't have to "follow" the sport to know who the top fighters were. My Grandmother knew Mohamed Ali was the Heavyweight Champion of the world. Everyone knew who Joe Lewis was or Sugar Ray Leonard or Joe Frazier. Boxing has lost it's place with the common man, it is not as popular as it was and now you have to follow the sport, before the sport followed you. Unify the titles and stop the 35 division BS nobody needs three or four "Double Super Bantamweight Champions" it's become ridiculous.

The last professional fight will be held on October 24th 2032 at Madison Square Garden (for you Sumo). Give me a call if I'm wrong.

Roflmao. that's basically what I mean too. I can't strike up a boxing convo with my mailman, grocery clerk, co workers etc. I have to zone in on people who follow the sports. That's my definition of dying. Not no boxing matches or fans exist anymore which seems to be the premises that sumo is trying to hold me to. They do exist. Matches still happen. Some fights sell. Now let's talk about the popularity declining and how it could be fixed cuz....that's what the conversation is really about.

Oh ps, Tom you're the man for actually breaking down some of the problems and suggesting solutions and not just saying "boxing is fine, people are making money, its on TV etc etc"

Used to be the Heavyweight Champion of the World was as famous as the New York Yankees and John Wayne. Today he's not as well known as Rocky Balboa, whats that say?

I'm Where I'm At
Seriously, take this boxing isn't dying junk here. You haven't posted one thing over there that you haven't already said here. you're STILL ignoring the most powerful piece of evidence that has been brought up (popularity has declined) while I continue to acknowledge yours (business isn't dead) so I'm really not sure what's left to discuss? You believe that because there's still some business left that it's doing well and I believe there once was a time that this was top tier one of the greatest star making sports in the world and those days have passed. No one could be "out of the loop" because it was BIG TIME, BIG HYPE, CANT MISS MENTIONS of it. I don't bring up other sports to compare them to boxing. I bring them up to show you where boxing ranked in popularity in the pass and where it stands now. Did you know hockey outsells the major sports playoffs? did you know it regularly produces the best playoff product? Does that elevate it to top teir status among the masses who simply don't care about it? Did you know soccer is the most watched sport in the world...yet a majority of US sports fans only tune in in RECORD numbers for a few events every couple years. Why can't take a look at those two sports and say wow there's some crazy passionate fanbase and a following behind it and say hmm maybe boxing is like this? instead you want to insist that the average joe and general population must care because the fanbase shells out some money?????????? That argument doesn't make any sense to me because you're not well rounded with ball sports. Your interests is in hand to hand combat only and refuse to acknowledge why other sports are brought up.

So for the last time, making money does not equate to still relevant to the average fan and "boxing is dead" is ALWAYS related to its standing with the general public. Not that no one will ever box or make money boxing again.

not gonna lie, ima pull an eddie and not even read this essay

i'm sure it's a bunch of regurgitated reasoning along with mild flaming.

I will accept your definition of "dead" that you explained in the other thread and we can leave it at that

Roy Jones Jr. is fighting tonight. He'll be putting a beating on Willie Williams. Who is Willie Williams you ask? I don't know.
Tomorrow, Thurman vs Guerrero and Broner vs Molina Jr.
