the meat is said to be delicious.

Arapaima meat is delicious! When I was in Manuas (1994), Brazil I had an Arapaima lunch and it was like no other meat I've ever had. My memory was it was sweet similar to a meaty fruit. For the sake of the fishery and for the industry for Arapaima meat I hope all the countries that Arapaima's are native to have great success farming these fish for the meat market.

"Arapaima gigas"? Try "Arapaima arapaima"
Ive seen you posting this all over the place. Have you counted the fin rays on any of your specimens? They are certainly large enough to make this a simple process! It would be interesting to know what yours truly are.

Bump because of Jakub Vagner on Fish Warrior which aired on National Geographic channel tonight. He lost a few Arapaima on this episode but at the end caught one large one, 10' 1" (121") with a girth of 4' 7" and more than 325lbs. It was a claimed world record but obviously no one there to verify in the jungle aside from the camera. He had to go to what he called a "Lagoon" during the dry season in the middle of the jungle. But he did it, he proved 3 meter Arapaima still exist. 3.07 meter to be exact. This fish was a beast. If you have Nat Geo, tune in. He has many episodes coming with other amazing fish.

On Larry Dahlbergs Hunt for Big Fish he meets a man who has an Arapaima farm and the owner who is well versed in Arapaima say his best catch was 850 pound Arapaima. As well the show River Monsters shows an old skin of an Arapaima that's its scales looks to be from an Arapaima well over 3 meters. I think there is just way to much water and way to much food in the Amazon for all the Giants to gone. There are other giants out there.
