Some interesting observations (to me, anyway).
I put RidX in a filter sock when I did my last water change, 9 days ago. Normally I do a vacuum / 20% waterchange in between the big one where I move all the wood, rocks etc. I did not this time because I was either lazy, busy, tired etc. I noticed a few days ago that in the gravel up against the front panel that there was no dirt or algae growing. Also beginning 2 days after adding the RidX, that a film had built up on the front panel. It appeared like a coat of dust on a glass coffee table (I tried to wipe the exterior). I just did a vacuum and there was less dirt then usual, but what was weird was the stuff coming up was grey! I also notice a fairly strong odor under the cabinet but not as strong directly from the tank itself. I would assume this is because the water in the sump churns more then the tank surface. My last observation is the indication that I need to change out filter socks is noise from the sump indicating they are getting clogged. About 5 days into a new set of socks I was already noticing noise when I normally get 2 weeks between changes. I figured I would be changing socks sooner then normal. The noise has gone away over the last couple of days.
Does the bacteria in RidX cause an aquarium to smell?
Does it cause the waste in the gravel to turn grey as it is processed?
Does it clean a mechanical filter? (socks) I had put the RidX directly into a sock, so maybe it disolved the solids.
What is the film that forms? Bacteria?
I tested for ammonia and there is none. I don't have any other test kits. I have increased my bio-load about a week prior to adding RidX.
