The Use of Probiotics in Aquaculture

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would like to know Jeff's views on the experiment.

Thank you. I bought the 1 dose (10.3) Earthworm Septic System Treatment. Thats should last me for a while if I dose that same as you did.

It should last a while I started by mixing it in water first but now I just throw it in the tank. The water clouds up for a few hours and by morning it's crystal clear.

Interesting thread. I use Rid-X in my pond but it never occured to me to use it in my aquariums.

Same principal.

any lowering of nitrates due to organic consumption?

I could not tell, Barbara. Never measure.

I did a check and while my nitrates are always low, they didn't go up inbetween water changes so I guess that's somthing. I would imaging they should have increased but I'm not big on testing all the time.

ditto

This happens due to the probiotic bacteria converting organic matter back to C02, which is then released into the atmosphere. As long as one has adequate surface agitation so that proper 02 exchange is taking place, the conversion process will take place, and ultimately nitrates will also be lowered.

This entire process is explained in laymans terms fairly well in the following link.
