Thorichthys Aureum??

Really ahrd to say but looks more like what i would expcet a maculipinnis to look like , that doesnt mean it is a mca and not an aureus.....as there is alot fo variation within the species...... best bet is to get the collection data if you can

It's really hard to distinguish t. Aureus and t. Mac at a young age. I've had both and they are almost identical. The varriations of each sp. make it even more difficult.
I have never seen a t. Mac have that much red on the body though. Also t. Mac seems to have more red on the gill plate like t. Meeki.
If these fish were bought at a reputable LFS I would stick w/ aureum.

I would be very skeptical if they are true aurem because they are so hard to find. Also like mentioned red aureum do not really exist. I would personally go with ellitoti although they can be hard to distinguish. If they do infact end up being aureum(which i doubt they are) make sure you keep them cool. They are part of the helleri group that require temps in the low 70's to do well.

Found this today.002.JPG004.JPG Hard to see the clearish colored eggs but the white ones stand out. About 25% of them are white and there is a ton more going up the rock.

I have both aureum and maculipinnis. I will try and post some pics for you tonight.

The reason I post these is because, I don't notice either of yours having the same coloration. There are, as has been said, many color varients. So, hope it helps, I'm not very good at IDing fish, so I will let you guys do that. But the best way I can think of for you to ID them, is to compare to others. Great looking thorichtys by the way. Again hope it helps, will follow the thread.

By the way.. I'm not at all good at taking pictures and they were takin with a cell phone. The maculipinnis had only been added about 3 hours before I took those pics, so that was the reason for the clamped fins and sitting at the bottom. When I get home tonight, I can try and get better pics of them. They have been in that tank for like a month now. So they are more comfy now.
