DMD123:
Plans for a solo wet pet? Thats what my current plans for mine are. But there is a part of me that wants to try mine in a community tank with other large non-cichlids to see if its as much a jerk as they are reported to be...
Have you picked a vendor you are interested in buying one from? What plans did you have if you were to get one?
That part of you that kinda dreams of a trimac in a "community" setting is a totally natural and very common thought to all of us that keep new world cichlids. However, from my personal experience, the trimac is introduced as a juvenile (of course not a fry) and allowed to grow up (or be raised) within a "peaceful" community of many dither fish and ZERO possible cichlids that could pair up and actively introduce very aggressive behavior into this community. One very important factor that must not be overlooked is this. This community my be kept with at least a 6ft long aquarium, I would use possibly at least a 125 gallon. A trimacs aggressive tendencies could explode if he/she is picked on during its upbringing. Or if once mature, any other cichlid of close relation and everyone knows how new world cichlids are to breed outside their own species, especially Trimacs. My apology for the lengthy response for that wasn't my original thoughts on this reply.
