heres it. check out its girth :D

the piece towards the right is thicker and probably bigger.

an estimate of the left piece is approaching 6.5" (had a ruler against it on the glass but the tail keeps waving around.)

as for the right piece, it should be bigger i guess. but it remains in middle most of the time... so.. cant get a safe estimate.

great pics and impressive growth on those fish! please continue to update, it is great to watch these fish as they continue to develop!--

PS-- do you buy or breed your own mollies for feeders? seems like that is the feeder of choice over there...they are not usually available as feeders here (although white clouds are becoming more available). i am looking into feeder fish i can spawn on my own for future work--

the growth amazes me too. its almost 1inch per week :D

i do not breed them. i simply go to the LFS, and see what can fit into the mouth of my gars, and whether it looks tasty for them.

but i generally avoid goldfishes. i prefer the mini catfish sold as feeders as well. but i try to give a variety.

Sol, many livebearer species are used as feeders here, plus a few other species(clarias catfish, barbs, and even young snakeheads), but we do not get feeder minnows here.

I've noticed that mine has never really had that straight horizontal line, it's more like the large spots the adults have. Keep in mind it's only 5-5.5 inches.

These pics should be enough to show you what I mean, though not decent. Catching up in size with the Florida gar.

mine too (the left piece)... notice this change from the previous week.

is there something wrong about that?

No, just common variation. It's just something that I noted, as many others have that straight bold line while mine doesn't.

Cool stuff, im handfeeding mine MP whenever i can and feeders when i off to camp on weekdays. Maybe thats why mine's growing at a rather slower pace than all of you guys haha :nilly::nilly::nilly:

Nice Tropical Gars, everyone! :)

reGARding the pattern on the young TPGs, it should be reiterated that it is HIGHLY variable at these stages. that being said, it is almost without a doubt that most of them will look generally the same when they mature and get older. we have seen this with several shipments of these gars from the same facility in the past many years. enjoy the pattern variation while it lasts, as it tends to be quite fleeting! again, great gars all--
