The GSBs have been recovering but feeding less than expected. I wonder why:

Hey Chief, I watch all your videos, awesome update Yeah the growth rate on the siamensis from my experience from newborn fry to 2.2lbs / 1kg takes a while, roughly a year but once they reach that mark its when the growth rate starts getting quick.

When the fish is 1.5kg or roughly the size of the ones in your tank, the growth rate ive seen is around 1kg per month assuming proper nutrition for 2 years then once they are 25kg/50lb and 1M/3ft long roughly they start getting wider as opposed to longer and the growth rate slows down significantly.

The only way I was able to achieve this growth rate in a smaller pond <10000gallons was by having a solar powered water pump continuously flow algae filled lakewater into said pond while another canal outflowed an equal amount of the water back to the lake in addition to large sized sturgeon pellets. Im certain that filter feeding is critical to this fish's growth rate and accounts for roughly 75% of its diet. The other quarter being ghost shrimp and tiny tiny fish. The fish Ive seen that grow this quickly all live in green waters and also eat the giant koi pellets we pour into the lake.

As for them being scared of catlas, I cant say ive seen these fish get scared of equal sized tankmates but that might be because the siamensis fish is smaller, the larger teenaged fish ive kept lose alot of the shyness they have especially starting from 10kg/20lbs. The ones ive kept in my growout pond for experimentation with arapaima, paroon sharks and alligator gars in the video I sent you, they would damn near suck the ghost shrimp or fish food out of their tankmates mouths.

In regards to eyesight, Ive noticed this fish has very very good eyesight but this is just anecdotal and can be taken with a grain of salt. When I walked near the conservation lake wearing a green shirt I can see the fish start swimming towards me from about 30ft away. I think it is very possible that the siamensis is wary from seeing the catlas in the distance.

TBTB:

Hi Sensei Dennis! You continue showering me and us with your invaluable and hard-earned knowledge and experience. God bless your kindness! This is the most helpful input! If I may summarize:

[1] newborn fry to 1kg/2.2lb takes ~ a year.
[2] from 1.5kg when fed properly with 75% green algae (green water is a must) and koi or sturgeon pellets and 25% tiny fish and crustaceans, the growth rate should be 1kg/month for the next 2 years, that is 12kg/year and 24kg/2years, reaching overall 25kg/55lb and 1meter/3.3ft at 3-4yo.
[3] then the growth slows down significanlty as they start getting wider as opposed to longer.
[4] shy and skittish when smaller but embolden with age especially after 10kg/22lb.
[5] probably have very good eyesight.

Well, I cannot provide our GSBs with green water. So, this, plus their growth being stunted / badly delayed by 8 years, might severly limit their current and future growth. We shouldn't be surprised by that. I think if I saw not 24kg/2years but 5-10kg/2 years, it might be a resonable expectation and goal. What do you think?

Dennis:

I think you are correct with your estimate. The summary is spot on.
