Unusually spotted juruense at Exotic Fish Shop

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There needs to be like a mfk donation pool where a member can volunteer to care for a certain species that’s come up for sale and other mfk members can donate so the fish can be bought however the carer has to document everything about the fish on mfk.

Wishful thinking, yes, but fun to imagine, no?

I volunteer to take care of it haha. I'll document it also but I'll be needing a tank, filtration, ect. Hahaha ?. Sucks not having any pet catfish right now.

Once I get my 550- and more importantly my water processing system- running, I plan to drop a fat stack on one of these.

I've been having abysmal luck with wc South American fish on this water.

But yeah, these guys are still a goal for me!

it’s “on sale” now - $850

i don’t think i’d pay that much much - steve’s getting close to the sweet spot though ?

if i did turn out with nice camo pattern and great contrast could be good!

There's nothing special about those fish as they get bigger there stripes will go away on some species. They are way the hell over priced. They are regular juruense catfish.

You're right, juruense is juruense. Still, some idiots like me will happily pay a lot for one with a nice pattern ?‍♂️

I almost regret spending the past seven years or so hyping this species, cause now they're as expensive as a tig ????

Agreed but sometimes we don't pay for the DNA. We pay for looks.

You surely see the difference between this: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/nice-looking-juruense.734590/#post-8283436

If you buy a regular juruense and grow them out they can look just as good I had one for like 2 years and it ended up be really pretty until I accidentally killed him dont pay for over prices ones if you fees them right and be patient they are all reallly nice when they get big

You seem to have a past history with these, would you mind telling us about it? We would most enjoy hearing about it and potentially learning something new, comrade.

I agree with this, in that they all fade and look better with age. However, the point Viktor was trying to make and with which I agree, is that the pattern on all of the fish isn't the same. Most of the typical vertical stripes, a minority have thicker, horizontal stripes and there's a very rare few that have the oddball pattern shown in this thread. The pattern is set at birth; the expression of the colors within that pattern, and by extension the apparent thickness of the lines, varies with age. The pattern itself does not change however.
