I didnt make it to the theaters this weekend as I had some family in town, however, I watched two movies Friday that are semi-new releases.
Alpha: How did man meet man's best friend? Alpha tells the story of how humans became close companions with wolves (then soon to be modern dogs). I never had a dog so it didn't grip me in that sense, but it was touching and displayed themes of strength and perseverance which was moving. The CGI wasn't the greatest which is used quite frequently and the plot is thin/boring. There is also no English spoken, so although there is limited dialogue, its all subtitles which isnt necessarily bad, just pointing it out. I dont think I would go out of my way to watch it, but at 90mins its probably worth it if need to kill a little bit of time. 6.1/10.
American Assassin: This one is a little older in the year. I remember being really excited for it, but poor reviews led me to wait until release. I then forgot about it, but this weekend it appeared on Hulu so I was excited to watch. Micheal Keaton has a prominent role and I am always a fan of him, but that is probably the show point of the movie. Lots of blood and gun violence but it appears to be made for teens with the lack of any deep plot lines. Pretty straight forward throughout, rated R with a torture scene so prepare for that. Not the greatest, but again maybe worth your while? 6.2/10.
