really sorry for your loss. Monty was beautiful and had a wonderful life. Really sorry to hear.RIP little buddy.
Thank you. Monty will be missed. He had a ton of personality and didn’t know he was little compared to his tankmates. He would flare at Porkchop the Pearsei who totally could have beat on him at any point. Very much like a sibling rivalry they had.

A couple new additions to the 300... Not ploys, lol

Hard to get good pics since they move around so much, but the new additions are four bala sharks. Two are huge, in the 11-12" range and the other two are 7-8". They fill the tank with some activity which goes great with the polys that veg out.

Works great with the polys and pearsei. Adding any other cichlids would have been a disaster with pecking order and aggressive issues, already been down that road trying to keep a cichlid community. The bala sharks fit the tank well and there is peace and calm.
Do you have any full tank shots with them? I'd like to check out the size of the balas in comparison to the pearsei. You don't see them this big often...well I dont

I will try and see if I can get some better pics... When my buddy texted me about them at the fish store and he said they were a good 11”+, it was kind of hard to believe. Then I got there and wow these were some big balas.

A small update. Soon after getting the fish, I lost the second to largest bala shark. I think it freaked during a water change and hurt itself. The other three are doing well and they are used to my maintenance routines and dont freak out that much.

Since the loss of the het a while back, I have been looking for another cichlid but nothing really interesting has come up... but now I may need to find something soon. Pork chop the pearsei has not been well. I think she is aged out. Pretty sure she is at least 9 years old at this point. She is very lethargic and has showed no interest in food any more. Nothing obviously wrong so Im just figuring it the age factor. So I need to come up with something to replace her.

The polys are all well. Been doing light feeding so they look closer to what you see in wild polys. The lean, long look about them. For a while I felt like they looked ‘wrong’, just getting too thick and fat.

So thats whats new in the 300. Will post more if I loose the pearsei or get anything new.
