LOL I don't have a problem with light between the plexi...you might be using thinner pieces than I do and the glass because I also paint the edges of the plexi... you can mask off sections so that they remain clear and then outline them in a contrasting color and even paint the reversae side with transpairant paints and backlight it.

The main advantage of this type of backing is that it's VERY easilly and quickly replacable. If your the type of creative person who would ask this question then nothing is ever perminate lol

Only thing I don't like about backgrounds, or having plexi in the background, is if you get any water spillage between the 2, you will get water marks between them. Then that takes removing, cleaning, and putting back on. And with my fish, I do get some splatter over the edges. My 55G has a background on it, and it looks horrid. I just don't want to empty the tank to move it enough to paint the back. Also, when I get my 300G, I plan on using the 55G as a sump anyways. Will need to find another cool paint to use when I get my 300G, lol.

The texured paint idea reminds me of a jet black marble tile I saw once that looks like they added a small amount of crushed glass mirror to it. I was real sweet.

I have a black background now and I have been thinking about how to trick it out even more without overdoing it. A couple:

1. A midnight blue pearl airbrused in a wave pattern across the glass and then overcover that in black
2. Float crushed mirror in a clear coat on the glass and let it dry. Then over spray in black.

I got a spare 30 gal tank I got for a friend of mine in the garage. Oh oh...

Guys, my head explodes with ideas at times like this...
My wife just asked me, "So now youre gonna drain the tank?"

I see the grey texture and it's sweet on the 75gal.

I hear you on the thin plexi. Water did get in between it and the glass and it was a mess.

Time to break out the old airbrush, get some texture paint and make the mirror in the kids bathroom dissapear...

Knew I shouldn't have read this. Guess I won't be getting any of the honeydo list done next day off.

It's time to combine the paints....do a little creative masking and make it look like natural stone....I may have to talk to my artest brother....lol

i was going to use paint but i wanted to set up the tank fast as the fish i ordered was coming soon and the never came. so i just got a couple of pieces black card and selotaped it on the back and a long piece of selotape at the top so if water did go on it ypu wouldnt be able to see. but iam gong to paint my 120. will get pics soon, i also have red line torpedo barbs they are amazing schooling fish i have 5 but soon 10 or 15! how many have you got lonewolf?
