The deep south
Enjoying the other “fish room” threads on here lately… Most my threads are a derailment, much like myself 😂💀… sooo i’ll keep my fish related projects here in one place…

Place sure aint what it used to be in my “glory days”, but i still have a few monsters and around 2k gallons running. Spend most my time just feeding and doing necessary repairs to keep things going. Need to redo a couple systems as theyve been pretty much un touched for 10+ years. Distracted right now with a 40 breeder stacker 😂 instead of fixing other things.

Real tanks left are 650, 500, 450 & 230… kiddie tanks are 40b x2, 37x2, 25 and a 5…

Start things off with some pics of the place 💀🤙

Awesome. Definitely following a long. How is the bichir tank. Curious the growth on those guys. Looking good!

Thanks man! 💀🤙… not any drastic growth from anyone in the group yet. The largest congi just continues to be the largest lol… she gets thicker by the day, but i dont notice any length. Still plan to move them to the 500 next door to see if that boosts growth. Bit surprised tho being on autodrip as not many bichir keepers are. I guess i see y the large ones are so expensive. Theyve def. Stretched out a bit and bulked up alot. Nothin outta the ordinary tho. I only feed once a week also. Ill get some close ups and single tank spot lights but i did take these the other day of my son enjoying them 💀🤘

I love it! This is your fish room after downsizing? Impressive; I'm gonna enjoy this thread. :)

The African Lung looks great as always. Are those terrified little tiddlers in there with him still the same Giant Danios you've shown in the past, or do you periodically need to replenish with new friends?

Chinese Wels is looking great; another fish I want but can't have because it would make me a criminal...

Your bichirs are...well, they're bichirs, I guess...:)

And how about your Clown Knife tank: what are those Cyprinid-looking things in there with the knives? Very streamlined and speedy-looking.

Thanks for posting this!

Always appreciated John! Been cutting back since around 2016. At this point i dont think i can or physically want to move the bigger tanks out 😂💀. Utilities are still a bit higher than id like tho.

The tiddlers in the lungs 450 are still the same. 17 have been going strong for a good 4-5 yrs now. Ive only lost a few i initially started with. Theyve beaten all other fish ive tried. Last longest inhabitant was a pink tail chalecus at 3 yrs escaping death 😂.

The CK’s live with 3 albino tinfoils and 1 filamentous barb. There all 8-10 yrs old now. Id like to combine this 500 stock with the Silurus asotus, but hes a richard cranium. I tried 5-6 yrs ago and he relentlessly bit every tank mate until i broke it up. Lasted 20 minutes with “friends”. Im gonna try again tho as both tanks look empty.

Lovely! Yeah bichir growth in general def is abnormal. I know Joe, Hao, and many other bichir keepers (myself included) prefer big percentage 75 percent + water changes for growth. My guess is large water changes are best for "removing" nitrates and growth inhibiting hormones as opposed to continuously diluting it so maybe worth a shot? Regardless awesome stuff. Nice selection of WC bichirs :)

Wow! Those Danios are survivors for sure. Maybe it's just me, but any big tank containing one or a few large fish is immeasurably improved by the addition of a handful of tiny little guys who manage to swim under the radar and avoid being eaten.

And Tinfoil Barbs! Can't believe I missed ID'ing those; I looked at them in the one pic that shows the bullnose end of that tank and had no idea what I was seeing. I'm thinking the curved tank wall acts like a lens and distorts the image a wee bit, makes them look a bit longer and leaner than they really are.

Whatever. Great fish, great tanks. :)

First off...:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Lookin great. My kind of fish room for sure, youve captured the raw essense of practicality it seems.

That lung is one bad mofo!!! I see little man already eyeing everything up, making plans of his own.

Making me look like a bum with a layer of paint on your lumber stands instead of my signature "natural" finish, fancy as hell man. :clap

Agreed… a school of tiny guys is a nice addition to a solo monster. Took me alot of attempts to get something that worked. I do like the giant danios for what they are also lol… they look good. Mini trout.

And yes, the dble bullnose does some wonky stuff for viewing sadly. The tank itself is more of a spectacle than practical for sure. I aquired that and 2 300 gals when a local store of 30 years shut down here. Sold the two 300’s in my downsizing. Had to cut my door jam out to get that one in 😂… gearing up to “overhaul” it sooner than later hopefully. I need to redo the plumbing and filtration. I set it up in my late 20’s and pushin 40 now i cant crawl underneath to change socks and do matinence like i used too 🤦‍♂️ Lol… i kick myself every time i need to change socks it takes forever and its a mess.

What the...did you seriously just say that in a response to me???:grinno::OMG:

"...
pushin 40 now..."....pfffft! :nilly:

Of course, I do understand, and sympathize. I mean, squeezing under my plywood 360 to remove the pump for servicing was way easier back when I was 60; it's a real PITA now... :lol3:
