I love sushi but good authentic Mexican food is a personal favorite. Not saying I didn't enjoy eating hand rolls calamari phos chicken and a bunch of different rolls and shrimp skewer's thoughIm not a huge fan of Mexican food. I think you made a good choice even if it was your second choice.
To each their own. I've never been satisfied with authentic Mexican food. Most times I wish I just went to a Taco Bell after eating at an "authentic" Mexican reastauraunt. Maybe I just haven't eaten really good authentic Mexican food? I love some good authentic Chinese food but I know people that hate all Chinese food. What's something I have to try/can't go wrong with for future reference? I always use Yelp to help me order what they are known for... But I'm usually pretty disappointed. Maybe I just don't like Mexican food that much. It's okay, but I will only eat it once in a while. Love me some Taco Bell though. Lol.
Tostadas you can't ever go wrong with, chimichanga is good, and enchilladas are good. I usually look for those three first before anything else. If not most places serve your typical tacos/burritos or casadia's. If spicy is an option and you enjoy some heat always go spicy. If they do it right they will incorporate pepper seeds or a small amount of the pepper itself in a homemade sauce instead of using a premade hot sauce which you will notice instantly. If the heat isn't blended into the flavor of the dish they are using a hot sauce. I know a few Mexican restaurant's that tried to make something spicy by adding Franks red hot, not the same effect
or nachos!!
