HI!
Just registered to this forum and am new to fish keeping
Hope someone can help with the type of filtration I need for a 125 gallon goldfish tank? I have 8 fantails and am using 2 Aqua Clear 110 HOB filters and 4 large size box filters
Although the tank gets some partial afternoon sunlight, the water is not warm. Having trouble with cloudy & green water.
1) Should I get an aquarium canister or a pond filter w/ a built-in UV?
2) Should I buy a Fluval FX5 or some other canister and buy a separate UV?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

UV for the green for sure, especially by a window-the sun is brighter than most light we can afford to run on our tanks. ;)

The cloudiness concerns me. I only get that after or during an ammonia spike. Do you have any means of testing your water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? This would be helpful to help you.

Your using box filters...Like the air driven ones? Also your AC110's what kind and how much bio material are your running? You can cut the sponge down and run more ceramic in the AC100's, but I'm not sure how to advise on the box filters.

I am using 2 Aqua Clear model 110 power filters which have the aqua clear foam (large sponge block), bio max, and activated carbon. (these came with the power filter
For the box filters, I am using a Resun electro magentic air pump to power up the 4 box filters. I have substrate and activated carbon media topped with filter floss in each llarge triple flow box filter
After we do a water change, the water becomes cloudy in 3 days. We are doing water changes every 3 days. I am using Pond Amquel Plus and Pond Nova for water conditioning.
Haven't tested the water for the ammonia yet.

^ agree, goldfish are like oscars. Overfiltration is required

I've liked the coralife UV's, An fx5 is great for goldies, thats what I used plus a ac 70 for backup in case one of the filters died. Lets see some pics of your goldies! I used to keep some in a 75 with an fx5, it was perfect!

How long has this tank been set up? Looks to me like the tank has not been cycled yet.

What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings before and after each water change?
