I know a private seller who wants to sell regular Jack Dempseys for $5 a piece. Was wondering is that a good deal on them and I have to buy three of them.

I see your point but a private seller has the right to ask any amount for his own stock. If it is unreasonable they won't sell and will be forced to either drop their asking price or hold on to their fish. Comparisons between a private sale and chain store prices can't always be equal. Like Fishingout said, LFS can afford to buy cheaper in bulk. Private owners come out of pocket to pay for food, water, any medicines, electricity and all of the other random things that this hobby costs. If you buy fry from a popular wild-caught cichlid, you can't always expect their prices to be cheaper than a chain store's fish of unknown lineage. What it really boils down to is what do you really want, how much are you willing to pay, and from what source will you get it. A $5 fish to you could be well worth $20 to the next guy.Red_Belly_Pacu;4553563;4553563 said:In my opinion, a private seller should always sell fish for less than what stores charge because a private seller does not have any overhead.
