what is the most aggressive tilapia species?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Tilapines are one of the largest groups of old world cichlids, and include many genera, below are a few I have kept.
1st Alcolapia alcalicus, it comes from Lake Natron, a lake that is more saline than the ocean.

next, one of my favorites, from Lake Barumbi mbo a small predator called Stomatepia pindu

and below Coptodon zillii, thought to be the basal (primitive) ancestor to many of the specialized, small lake species, such as the ones above.
thanks duanes :)
always the to give me the info when I need it !
so a talipia buttokefri is different to these? that's the one I am most familiar with

I believe buttikoferi has now been placed in Herotilapia, and is a very aggressive, loner species. They are known to follow hippos and eat the feces as they fall from the hippos arse.
They get fairly large, and tend to kill all other tankmates when they do, in all but the largest tanks (at least mine did).
Cute little buggers when young, but they don't really stay that way.

I think I remember reading about Lake Natron in one of my old books.

Lake Natron, and a few other soda lakes are very shallow (some places only inches deep) and the water gets hot.
When my Alcolapia spawned most of the fry seemed to end up as females, I believe because my water was comparatively cool (mid to high 80s), at times the lake hits high 90s.

I have a mix of Blues and Whites that, until recently, coexisted quite peacefully together. Pretty sure they won't make your list...
