I put some new driftwood in my tank the other day and there is this white crap growing on it. Any idea what it is? Wood was boiled 3 times for 1 hour each time and had 2 1 hour cold soaks. Anybody know what it is?

When you introduce items into your tank, especially organic matter such as a piece of driftwood, bacteria or fungus will find a place to colonize and grow. The driftwood will release excess carbohydrates and nutrients that the bacterial fungus are feeding on, it's harmless and will go away on it's own.
ty that’s interesting. I’ve put in other driftwood and I’ve never seen that happen before.
Yeah this happened every time I put any driftwood in any of my tanks. It fades out slowly or shrimp and algae eaters love it and will polish it up.
