Over the years now I have had approx 50pb from miami and everglades region(homestead ect) that I have caught and raised from juvis(and caught & released hundreds)....there are 2 types down there appearance wise....in cutler drainage and everglades canals southmost ect you will find the highly speckled juvis which turn out high yellow or bright green when adults.....in tamiami area and surrounding ponds/lakes are the plainish juvis which turn out the "dirty yellow/tan" with high black blotching. Back when shafland and florida f&g 1st stocked the cichla there were peacocks from guyana, venz.,and several other areas that were brought to the US for the stocking...all were labeled as ocellaris then, but speculation of intermingling monoculus wasnt ruled out....there is alot of debate to which species these are whether a crossing of ocellarisxmonoculus or just regional variants bred to make what is now commonly refered to as florida ocellaris....after the intial stocking which included temensis(did not survive/reproduce due to size of the specimens combined with anglers taking them to f&g offices for ID due to never seeing them before created high mortality)..but after the initial stocking a breeding program was being undertaken in boca raton(I believe) by paul shafland to restock the miami canals with more pbass...again it is all speculation but highly probable to xbreeding ect.. producing the different types...and water quality plays a big part as cutler canal system is the clearest and cleanest of all the miami-dade canal systems........anyway there are distinct differences in the fish from these systems...can dig up pics if you'd like, but the one you showed definately looks like the speckled variety...which in turn look like the above pic I posted when adult.midnight;481363; said:i was just curious.
