Will be back down in april...will let you know when...you are welcome to come along if youd like. I wouldnt worry too much over the split fin...some melafix wouldnt hurt and will help him heal up quicker.

and with that avitar,im not sure i want to go anywhere with you LOL :nilly:
YEP..SAW....best thing I can pass on is what I do ...we fish and keep the fish alive in tupperware bins at the hotel then drive them some 23+hrs back...I havent lost many. Basically when we catch them they go straight into a 40gal livewell with clean water(from hotel)and aerated...once we are back to the hotel we transport them to the room where we have a 55gal tupperware bin(waterchanges are done once in the am...and once late evening...we treat the water with chlor. remover and switch fish over to clean....inside the bin is one ammonia pouch(made for filters in a satchel)..water temp is kept a constant 85-86*and aerated by multiple airstones.....when we leave to drive back the fish are in new clean water ect and we stop every 5hrs to do a water change airstones and ammorid bags in basin........once home I have a tank setup with warm 86*f water and treat with melafix and pimafix for 5 days...then remove fish to their tank to be housed. All of my bass tanks are 85-86* ph 6.2-6.8 and highly filtered with good current.
dont know if that will help you any,but hopefully it will....the biggest factors I have found that kill when collecting down there is your water temp and ratio of fish in container(too many fish in a small bucket ect)

very helpful,i wondered how ya do it.
thats alot of water changes.it doesnt matter the water isnt cycled?

would the water being about 77 when they were put in kill them? its at 82 now but when i first put them in it was around 77.lost 4 cus of something.
they were in 2-5 gallon buckets, both had airstones,3 in one,4 in the other.

the water not being cycled doesnt matter as long as the temp is right and no chlor. ...you are just transporting short term and the frequent water changes keeps the ammonia and nitrate level very low during the process which = less stress.
The temp would be a massive factor...77 is very low for peas and from going from a warm water bucket to 77 would either shock them...or stress them enough to do them in.
try this next time you go collecting...even if its for local fish:
take several buckets...fill one of them at home with clean water and dechlorinate it..take the one bucket with you with the clean water....use another bucket while collecting..both with aerators(battery bubblers)....once you are back to your car remove the fish from the collecting bucket into the clean bucket(dont pour the ditch water in)keep it as clean as possible. the water temp should be close from sitting in the car but check it to make sure it isnt too hot...you could even put it in the shade while you are collecting. once all the fish are in the clean water and the aerator is running..head home. Only factor when you get back is to have a tank ready with similiar temp water and all should be fine....give it a try.

i dont know if ya saw my "went out netting" post.
but ever since i started this, ive used the water they came from till i got home.
so its better to use clean water from the time i get them?
ive lost alot of fish in all my netting, and always use the water they come out of,even the ditches, lol, till i get home

I am sure that works too but I have always and still put them in clean water right off the bat...I go collecting approx every other week and never have had any losses with this method in some 20+ yrs of collecting so thats what I stick with....just a personal preferance I guess, but I like to get them into clean water from the start...either way would work I'm sure.
