Kinda of true but false gharial/slender-snouted crocodilians have a slightly weaker bite force than say saltwater or nile crocodile. However the crocodilians have one thing that Spinosaurus doesn't have is their jaw muscles around in the neck region.

Yeah I pointed that out to Darius before as well, that the largest Carcharodon was barely bigger than a T rex while Spino out weighed T rex by about 2 tons. Still I like the fact that your answer was way more in depth and detailed than mine. It offers info. to those who don't know and hopefully captures their interest.

I totally agree that is decent inference and one I had thought, but didn't say publicly on here. I appreciate you mentioning what you googled as I'm going to google that right now, and that's what this thread should really be about. Offering up info. and hopefully teaching someone something and you just did as I didn't know about the similarities between specifically Tomistoma and the Spino. I knew comparisons where made, but never knew the exact species it was compared to. So thanx on that one bro.

I'm fairly certain that Carcharodontosaurus, especially C. saharicus, would had an intelligence advantage over Spinosaurus if the increasing brain mass/decreasing cerebral mass in regards to nonavian reptiles theory (as described in brief in the previous link) is to be believed. The theory states that the larger nonavian reptiles have proportionately smaller cerebra than smaller nonavian reptiles; by that logic, smaller dinosaurs would almost certainly be smarter than larger ones to an extent which would mean that a Carcharodontosaurus could be expected to be more intelligent than a Spinosaurus.

No problem on the crocodile comparison; I thought about it after I remembered mentioning the similar jaw structures (and probably similar feeding habits) between the two.

I currently have four baby Nile monitors which are similar in some respects to the Spinosaurids in that they probably have similar diets, behavior, and skeletal structure to an extent. For example, here's a picture of the skull of a sub-adult Nile monitor:

It might also be worth noting that their heaviest living relative, the Komodo dragon, has a weak bite force but employs an interesting feeding method in order to make up for it.

Personally I believe Spinosaurus do take down armoured fish, assuming that they are too big for swallowing. Maybe having giant hook claws helps Spinosaurus to get a firm grip on the armoured fish so Spinosaurus could ripping some flesh out of the fish by use its mouth.

That makes sense to me.

Here's an old thread discussing the Spinosaurus vs. Carcharodontosaurus debate on a UK-based dinosaur forum. The thread covers a lot of what we've been discussing with some great details & some citations and/or personal accounts. One thing in particular that stood out was the fact that there were a ton of other fish-eating predators living in the same area as Spinosaurus which makes me wonder even more if it didn't feed primarily on fish rather it was more of a generalist.

the claws could also be used to break up the armor. I also believe Spino lived alot like modern day bears. Fish was an important food scource but not the only one.

That makes sense considering what they had to compete with for food.

I believe it add some advantage to Spinosaurus that it don't have to compete with crocodilians 24/7 when Spinosaurus can simply wandering away from rivers in searching for other food sources...like Carachs or other theropods' kills or feeding on dinosaur hatchlings.

Exactly. It seems that we all agree at this point that Spinosaurus preferred to prey upon large fishes but also would eat smaller dinosaurs and carrion in a more generalist fashion.

Buddy we all have a life and work and it takes the same amount of time to write a thesis as it does for you to keep throwing the same info. at us doesn't it. Hmmm. lets see you repeated several times about the axe theory yet never answered my question. Which was what source are you using. It would've taken the same amount of words to say oh I cited this from so and so's theory. Than it took for you to repeat yourself for pages on end. You just obviously have nothing to cite. You've also resorted to insults again by implying that I don't have a life. Again I'll site your original statement about what you said about those who insult rather than actually contribute. You are most certainly a hypocrite since you faulted others for doing what you just did. Which is insult and offer no helpful info. Your also obviously vain as you think I should take everything you say at face value without question. And why should I take it or let it be? Do I have no right to question you? Are you beyond reproach or something? Am I not given to the same rights as you to express myself? It's truly sad because I gave you a chance rather than jump on the Darius bashing band wagon that was going on here and you've resorted to insulting me at least 3 times with no recourse from me. I'm not dumb enough to not see that you referencing to me as buddy is you being condescending and that's not the only ways you've talked down to me, but must've thought I would be to simple to notice. I'll also end with this I've seen several member's here act exactly like you and they never last long. Either they insult the community enough and everyone turns on them and they leave or they wind up getting banned. As far as this thread is concerned I will do you and myself a favor and leave it be.
