here's the bottom line, there is no absolute king species of the cichlid world. there are a lot of factors that determine aggression. sure there are some species that, on average, are much more aggressive than others. however, tank size, age/maturity/size of the fish, water temperature, spawning or not spawning etc.
doviiking is right though when he was talking about the maturity of the fish making a difference. a 10" dovii will usually be no match for a 10" midas even if both are males. a 10" midas is a fully matured adult whereas a 10" dovii is a young teen at best.
I have always said that jags are overrated as far as aggression goes. they aren't so much aggressive as they are territorial. they require a much larger territory to be happy than most other cichlids. if they have that territory then they can be fairly peacefully kept with other equally sized cichlids. red devils, midas, red terrors are generally more aggressive/pugnacious in that they'll go out of their way to kill just to kill.
there are so many variables that there really is no way to determine which species is the most aggressive. if all cichlids grew to the same size then it would be much easier. who would win between a 30" male dovii and a 30" male neet. imo the neet would probably win. there have been discussions on this on many other sites, and actually the species I see listed at the top the most is exCichlasoma beani. the problem is that few people have been lucky enough to keep them because they are so rare.
anyway, let's stop bickering and stop nitpicking about spelling and grammar. we're not writing term papers here.
oh, and when talking about "size matters" how about we keep it in reference to fish.
