Interesting proposition. What makes you say this? Do you run a sand filter only and does this deal with mechanical waste? What type of sand filter do you use Medhbsi?Switch over to a small sand filter. No more filter socks

I have a Hayward sand filter. The intake pipes are lower than my overflows. In my sump I have filter socks that are never dirty there just a backup. And I mean never
The sump is running 30g of K1 in a 55g drum with air. I make sure to back wash the sand filter every 3 weeks so no beneficial bacteria will grow in there. It's mechanical filtration only
I get the 100 micron socks, mine have lasted a good 3 years and are starting to wear out now but just a couple holes in a couple of them, a little thread and they would be just fine again, these socks are great, recommend hanging them from both handles if you are leaving them high up in the air and not resting on the bottom at all, they get heavy.
I just ordered a dozen of those cause the price was good. I got 6 of the normal length and 6 of the 32" ones. Cant wait to see how they work. BUt I need to adjust my sump drain so that I can run 2 socks. A bigger sump would be nice! Damn 130g is just too small.
I am running a wet dry, and i always use pads. But pads miss some of the "stuff" maybe i dont understand but how does a filter sock work? My drip plate is only a inch or two away from the water coming from main tank. But would like to switch to socks
