I used to use filter socks but hated them. I prefer use this filter floss layered up 2-3 times thick over my drip plate and just chuck and replace as needed. Its cheap and really easy. I also find that this particular floss catches a ton of waste but doesnt jam up as quickly as other types or socks. Give it a try for what it costs you never know. http://www.bigalspets.com/filter-floss-20-sq-ft.html
I used to use filter floss but switched to socks because of all the money spent on floss. I used to buy big rolls for 80 bucks and they would last about 1 month

Just struck gold for these parts. Sourced polypropylene felt socks 7" x 32" with the plastic ring c/w plastic handles inside for $8 each. Whoot whoot! Way cheaper then I can get them anywhere else.I went with 200 micron for now but I can get various microns so I will play around and see what works best.
