Its in Victoria but its all over now.
It was a cooling pond for a power station but the power stations closed down and the water went cold, then the dam walls started to get cracks so the whole place is off limits now.
I checked it out during summer and the whole thing is fenced off, must have been fun while it lasted , i wish i got down there when it was in full swing. The local council even put Barramundi in there to encourage fishing tourism to the area.
Years ago a girl from work caught what she calle a pretty blue fish and put it in her tanks and the next day it had killed everything so i guess the feral cichlids reverted to their wild ways.
Probably there would be some feral cichlid populations up north where its warm but its not really a good thing if they arent contained in a giant dam like they were down here.

Sad the amount of invasives now. People are reliably catching geophagus braziliensis in seq. They're like the new tilapia, it's a shame as well. One of my favourite cichlids.

I'm a little sad that the self-contained cichlid pond experiment is over but invasive/non-native species introductions are never as benign or predictable as expected either so probably for the best. Very cool to hear the end of the story.

Should be banned, at least in Northern Australia. Andrew from Laybrinth was trying to get them put on the noxious list. Would be catastrophic to our northern rivers
Who would be releasing peacock bass into the wild?
They aren’t really common or cheap, they aren’t really the sort of fish someone buys without knowing how big they get or how hat they are.

I think people were releasing them for fishing or something from memory.
