thought of a problem with the basket idea 
the overflow pipe is attached to the pond and it has to hang over the filter a bit.

so the basket wont go in or out without hitting the pipe.

Sorry, lost the thread... Add a slip fit or a union to the end of the pipe to be able to take it off.
When playing with diameters, you have to keep in mind that math no longer is 'simple math'. Two times two no longer equals four. You will need four two inch pipes to equal one four inch pipe.midnight;807139; said:
