Would you euthanize this fish?

I've already looked into parasites since this fish's eyes started to get odd and he started itching them quite awhile ago, I've truly exhausted those efforts. I've treated him quite a few times just to be on the safe side, but it looks like it's simply a deformity which is common with EBJD. As he grew, his eyes didn't making him look fat in appearance. It was odd. Then the eye started to crack almost and he trashed around until it looked like he pulled part of his eye out. It healed and looked a little more normal, but he was left with a cataract (not cloudy or milky, just the actual pupil) and now the other eye is starting to cataract as well. He has no symptoms other than this issue and starting to lose body mass, probably due to his sight going and not eating as much.

Here's photos of him over the past couple months.

Here is yesterday, his blind eye

The other eye, if you look closely you can see it's starting to cataract.

10/11 (we were catching a different fish with a trap and I happened to snap a photo) as you can see he was fairly big, but he had already had his eye damaged

9/30 you can see his eyes were already sunken in

9/18 around when he eye tore out (left)

9/5 when the eye started to split but he wasn't bothered by it yet.

also, I should add that when you see speckles it's sand from his rolling around. We used quickrete and I seriously cannot stand it. It's messy and coats the entire tank in the sand. It's better now, but the first 2 months it looked like velvet on fish, rocks, wood, everything. Don't understand how people can recommend it, terrible.

quickete? in a tank?, why?

fish looking bad, I would clove. EBJD fragile to begin with, this one heading down hill, sorry but that would be my opinion.

I rescued these 2 EBJD's from a LFS a few years back. They had been returned in horrible condition. Owner had said he thought they were badly ammonia burned. They were the largest EBJDS I had ever seen at nearly 10". Not sure if you can see but the one on the left has the same sunken eyes and also acted a bit "off" at times. Never really was able to figure it out but now after reading this thread I'm guessing it was also blind. needless to say, I kept them fat and happy for over a year after I brought them home. I'd say as long as its swimming, and eating, let it live out its days. When it comes down to it, is there really much more to a fishes life?? Lol

I used quickrete because we do a lot of diy projects and were recommended it for a natural sand. we're removing it once our 240 is set up and I have somewhere to stick the fish. I'm not sure what else I can do for him. my feeding is made fun of at work it's so meticulous and thorough. I take an 30 mins to an hour to feed because I feed variety and watch everything so I don't overfeed, it's a bit much but my fish grow fast and beautifully. we also do a weekly (sometimes small bi weekly) change 25%-40% and once a month we remove decorations to vacuum the tough spots and clean everything, remove and wipe down the lids twice a month, and clean out the canister tubes (not the bioballs, just the lines) I've been told I'd like saltwater due to my meticulous nature with fish, but my point is; this fish is babied to the max. he seems happy enough, but the shaking is so sad to see sometimes. makes me wonder if he's suffering

I personally do fin level water changes every week with a full vacuum on all tanks, that would be a 180g, 90g, 75g and a 30g. I do neglect my lids. more worried about water quality and tank, I am sure allot of folks think, like they do about you that its over kill, if i am going error, it will be on the fishes side. not mine.

Have you posted about this fish in the past? I don't remember. Can you tell me how you treated it? Do you have a hospital tank available to treat it in if your interested in trying? The eye looks bad and I can't garentee the vision can be saved but there are thigs that you can try. If your interested please post water perameters and include Ph and Hardness.

no I haven't posted on this fish before aquanero. I had this issue long before I created an account on here. I did post about an archerfish I brought home from work before, but this was in a different tank and not correlated. I'm heading into work soon so I can't do a water test but I just did a 20% last night, just a biweekly change no other reason. my tests typically come back nitrate 0-10ppm, but occasionally raise to 20ppm just before a w/c. nitrite 0ppm, never raised. alkalinity and hardness I'm unsure, but I know it comes out harder since I'm in California. ph 7.3 which won't go down much since it's tap treated with prime. it tends to cause more harm than good to mess with the ph unless I'm doing ro water, which I'm not. I've got tons of driftwood and a few indian leaves to help out though.

if the fish is doing well then i would let him/her live out its life

its probably pissed it cant see and is trying its best 2 c
he may get used 2 his condition and as long as u keep an eye on him/her im sure things will work out...if not u will know u tried ur best 4 ur friend and gave him the best care u could, btw i think they come from cloudy silty waters anyway so going blind may b just normal for older fish or just bad breeding...either way by posting as much as u have it tells me u would regret killing ur friend.
