Description
Toxotes microlepis, aside from the more popular Toxotes blythii, is one of the few truly freshwater archerfish. Also, much like blythii, the small-scaled archerfish is rather small compared to other archer species. The largest species reach about 1' in length, while microlepis, along with a few other archer species, usually only attain about half that size-- somewhat similar to the contrast between the aforementioned snub-nosed payara, and other payara species. Microlepis is also able to withstand mild brackish conditions, which, in a way, makes them more versatile than blythii, which are not known to tolerate brackish. Microlepis, unlike many other "freshwater" versions of marine and brackish fish, is a fish that truly thrives in freshwater, and often spends nearly, if not its entire life in it.

Triportheus angulatus, while not a member of Gasteropelecidae, (true freshwater hatchetfish) are still somewhat close due to being characins. Somewhat like Gasteropelecidae, these fish exhibit a slight curve in their stomachs. Could possibly eat nano fish such as guppies and ember tetras. Best kept in schools of 6+, and do best with similarly sized tankmates ranging from peaceful to semi-aggressive.

But this is a good find. Didn't know hatchetfish-type fish were this big.
