do not mess with the striata, they are dangerous fish their whole life. I once kept one with the pbass a bit bigger than it. The pbass would bully it ALOT. Then one day, I looked at my tank and the pbas was extremely scared every time the chevron swam near it....the next morning i woke up to see my pbass floating belly up in the water :p. But i still think chevron are great fish, very active. Also i dont think its a good idea to keep SH with cichlids as cichlids will challenge and the SH will accept and tear the cichlid to shreads :p
Never owned a pBass but all I have read about them, and all the pictures I have seen of them, for example in the ACA Bunterbarrche bulletin, shows large pBass being housed with things like Geophagus. Many people warn not to house them with aggressive CA, so i don't see how your experience housing them with a snakehead really says anything about how snakeheads do with aggressive and CAPABLE cichlids, as a pBass is not really considered, by many, to be either.

I agree...my pbass is just an example of what might happen to a cichlid if it messed with a striata. My pbass only died with a missing anal fin and a few scars on its head. If a "capable" cichlid such as a dovii or any really aggressive cichlid tried to challenge my SH, it would tear it apart. My pbass was only attacked a few times, since the SH didn;t think it was that big of a threat (since it didn't attacked the SH that much) and I was away so it died because it wasn't being treated. BTW I only wish SH's and cichlids good live peacefully :)....regards.

if you never done it then you dont know. the op was taking juvii cichlids that are not even aggressive yet and trying them with his sh. you really think a 15 inch sh would shred a 15 inch dovii? dovii would have more weight at that size and are just more of a brutal killer. imo your sh would get killed in no time. dont ever try it but thats what i see happening.

I don't understand what you're saying, my snakehead is more of a juvenile than the dovii.

A 6.5 inch dovii is closer to an adult than a 6.5 inch striata.

If you like the dovii's chances, fair enough, that's your opinion, but what first hand experience do you have to suggest that?

Dovii's are cool fish, if you like them that's cool, and they are probably the most badass cichlids I've seen (though I love peacock bass, I would not let my channa anywhere near my peacock) - but against a fully grown snakehead? Come on man, don't make me laugh.

A dovii gets to around 18 inches. I've seen one at around 16 inches in the flesh. Pretty big meaty fish, I've also seen snakeheads in the flesh over 3 foot, and owned a giant snakehead that I grew from 3 inches to 2.5 foot.

An 18 inch dovii would get it's stoumach ripped out by a 3 ft snakehead, if we were to take 10 3ft striatas or micros, and 10 dovii's, let the match happen 10 times - I'd bet my life on the snakeheads winning 9 out of 10.

Don't be sore just because you can't get these wonderful beasts in the US ;)
