do you have a pic or a link to one of these?
thanks for all the help guys
Right now I'm using a fountain pump with a waterbell attachment to splash water back down and I just tied a foam filter to the intake of the pump. (Said I was cheap) Works great.

You can barely make out the sponge filter on the right end of the pump. It's cylindrical w/ a hole thru the center lengthwise.

Sponge filters are sold at all MY lfs'. I even found some at wallyworld back in garden area by drip irrigation.

:topic: Catch the cat in a save-a-heart trap and hand it back to your neighbor, worked for me and we where still friends.

Could wet the cat down then take it back a say you saved its life :grinyes: .

If all else fails, catch cat, cat disappears (to good home of course).

Problem half solved.

Like midnight said, screen, fruit tree netting or monofiliment strung up around tanks/ponds solves the rest...

See, now wasn't that easy. (Yah, 'cause I didn't have to do the work!)

Where abouts does the hot florida sun shine on you at ( ah..map, not body partwise!)?
I'm about a couple of hundred miles South of 60 miles South of Tampa:) Miami, as midnight says.

Forgot to mention about the problem with frogs. Somehow they can sneak under those nettings and lay eggs. You may have hundreds of tadpoles swimming with the fishes after heavy rains.:( Very annoying considering that my monster fishes don't like them. Also, PB can punch holes through the netting. I picked up a 13 inch female PB that was quarantined from the outside of it's tank yesterday. Fortunately, it looks like it will survive.

Midnight's fish deaths may be PH shock induced. Don't know about your water but the tap here produces H2O with PH higher than 8.8. I've learned to age the tap water with airstones to allow the PH to drop to around 7.6 before using it with my fishes.

Those are Port cichlids not Tilapia and the smallest one is a Jewel cichlid.

Sure doesn't look like tilapia to me...more like Acara or Aequidens species. The smaller one actually looks more like a jewel cichlid of some type. Very kewl man! That armored cat is pimp! Wish i could catch fish for free like that!

I hear ya about the tadpoles, I've got them in almost every drop of water I have (actually my are toads).

What kinda of netting are you using? Maybe you need chainlink fencing. Electrified ? I've never had anything breakout before.

I always wondered if I could keep walking catfish?

I use Trical Netting, an extruded plastic netting, which is supposedly UV-stabilized and chemical resistant. I think I'm going back to using fencing material to cover tanks for big PB. The chainlink electrified fencing might work on the cats.:naughty:

The PB that jumped out through the netting was found dead earlier this evening when I opened it's holding tank and tried to start medication as part of its quarantine.:(
