the heat is killing them IMO...a tupperware bin even in the shade will warm very high and very fast....you dealing with a small open air body of water compared to the ditch....try putting a thermometer in at mid day and see what the temp reads....just a guess but I think the fish are cooking;)

went again today.
didnt have any $ for ice tho.
there was hundreds "no joke" of baby crayfish, not even a quarter inch big.
got a dozen of those and 2 big ones, none made it.
i put them in just enuff water to keep them wet.
oh well i give up on them lol.
also, there was hundreds "no joke lol" of baby plicos, half inch maybe.
i got a dozen or two of those in just a few scoops.
also got 2 baby largemouths from my parents pond, about 3 inchers.
also got 2 more of those fish in my last pic, babies.
also a half inch big sun fish, nice coloring, and a bunch of bluegill babies.
i will get pics if they last this time :)
No $ for ice? Freeze some bottles of water (I'm cheap), & won't polute your capture water, just don't over due it and freeze the fish.

Well, I think we know when pleco spawning season is, along with everything else apparently. cool catch.

Well I would add a filter and bring it inside. Also allow time to float. Put them in bags or something and let them float to gradually get them used to the temp change. The temperature in the creek is most likely alot colder then the stuff in the tub. Also don't dump the transport water into the tank. HTH

Temp shock could be a problem, but I'd bet on the water first.

I've got a hospital tank (aqua-blue opaque color) outside in the shade only thing I do is put an umbrella over it. Stays about 84-88 degrees. And I don't think we're that much different in weather! :grinno:

I do have a pump with a sponge filter and do 20% w/c twice a day w/pre-treat water, when in use.

Quarantine tanks I do w/c's 3 times a day.

I gotta disagree Chad55. I'd float the fish in bag(s) then dump the transport water in the hospital tank with the fish, less shock. Then do a 20% water change 3 times 2hrs apart, then three times a day until you can get them into a properly cycled tank. A little work, but worth it in the end.

EEgads, I'm on a mission to get you to get these fish home alive.

I raise angels, gouramis, and sometimes tilapias or Pbass under The hot South Florida Sun in tanks as small as 10 gallons. The fish you are catching are tropical fish. They should be able to handle the hot temps. The only problem I have with raising fish in the yard is the constant battle with algae and the birds flying away with some fish or the Neighbor's cat having a buffet in one of the above ground ponds.

Your fish deaths could be an acclimation problem. Could also be your water conditioner not doing its job. Does your water conditioner handle both Chlorine or Chloramine? Some water conditioners can only neutralize Chlorine and you might have chloramines in your tap water. Just a thought to consider.

:topic: Catch the cat in a save-a-heart trap and hand it back to your neighbor, worked for me and we where still friends.

Could wet the cat down then take it back a say you saved its life :grinyes: .

If all else fails, catch cat, cat disappears (to good home of course).

Problem half solved.

Like midnight said, screen, fruit tree netting or monofiliment strung up around tanks/ponds solves the rest...

See, now wasn't that easy. (Yah, 'cause I didn't have to do the work!)

Where abouts does the hot florida sun shine on you at ( ah..map, not body partwise!)?
