Stingrays and high ph levels?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just talked to my friend David who owns Golds aquarium in Calgary why my geo tank's ph is not settling after such a long time is cuz the sand is not stirred up and it will keep buffering cuz once the top layer of sand gets stirred then the sand under it will rebuffer it. Basically he saying the top layer of sand will lose it's buffering capacity but the sand under it won't unless I keep stirring it up consistently then it will eventually lose all it's buffering capacity.

first off your friend david doesnt own gold aquarium

i give up with you

and if somebody told you that at golds lol what is the sand underneath still dry??? geos consistanly stir up the sand plus the sand is completely submerged.i dont think sand will rasie ph. not by 1 hole point 6 months later. your not testing correcly
if you used a tds meter test the tanks water get a reading than stir up your sand one second after and take a second tds reading when your tanks all cloudy you will get a higher reading. also if your letting that tank evaporate that will make your tds raise. also your probably adding salt.that will raise the hardness too. another your mechanical filteration sounds like its lacking this will create a higher reading.

your taps water is not high 6s low 7s like you say than

your rays tank ph is low because the water quality is poor

and your geos tank water stays at 7.5 because thats what your tap waters ph is at.

and your hardness is not at zero they add ash and minerals to your water to stabilize the ph or it would become very unstable in water treatment plants .your gh reading is wrong i know for a fact the tds or your water is around 10-20 or 20-40uS .

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TEST TAP WATERS PH????

Ur an idiot. David is Dennis's younger bro which is the owner of golds aquarium. He has 2 brothers. Kevin and David. 2nd I don't let the tank evaporate. I do weekly 60-70 percent wc on both tank's. Also I don't add salt and stop judging others aquariums as poor quality. U make it sound like u know it all and that's why I arguing with u.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO TEST TAP WATERS PH????

Do u want me to send u a liter of water and u can test the ph yourself? I do test my tap's water and it's 6.8-7 cuz I preheat 55 gallon water barrels for wc on my 450 cuz the tank is set up in my garage.... I have a friend on mfk who also lives in Victoria. If u don't believe our tap water is in the high 6's then ask him yourself...also his tank has no stingrays nor no where near my stock and his ph is acidic even with crushed coral. he has a few geo's and 2 oscars, no sand and his ph is 6.5...

Or better yet jump on bcaquaria and ask ppl on the forum what's our tap water ph is at and hardness. Everyone on bcaquaria or who lives in van or vic knows about how soft our water is and how much problems we have with stabilizing ph and that's why we have to use crushed coral...

It is true, what crazyfish88 said, so I don't know how there is an argument about what HE measured HIS VICTORIA TAP WATER at from a guy who is not at his house testing the same tap...

If you really don't believe him then maybe come down to Victoria and test his tap water. My tap water is high 6's and I can read a ph test, and my test is not expired... hell you don't even have to shake the drops you add so I don't know how you could mess up a ph test....

Water levels change all the time so perhaps when you were here doing tests it was at that level, perhaps now it has changed?

Unless you could tell me how I am doing my ph test wrong and I could retest it for you? Forums are places for discussions,

Lol Mitch why dont u tell him what u have in your tank and what substrate and what's ur ph at? Calgaryflames thinks we dunno how to test or read our ph levels from a simple API ph tester. Funny he doesn't even live in Victoria and he saying our ph is not what we say it's at lol...

Hey Calgary flames. Read this article on lower mainland water conditions. Our tap water hardness is practically 0!

Post #1 on 1st page and post #48 on 5th page

Tap water conditions in the lower mainland are extremely soft. This condition can actually kill some aquarium fish if left unadjusted. It is a very uncommon problem as most cities increase the mineral content of the tap water to prevent corrosion of piping etc. In North America, to my knowledge, Seattle and BC are the only places where this is a problem.
The hardness in the lower mainland is practically zero. This is similar to the conditions of rain water.

Vancouver's drinking water is very soft (low amounts of dissolved calcium and magnesium) and slightly acidic. This is due to the source water originating as surface water from rainfall and snowmelt. The average pH of Vancouver's drinking water is 6.9. See Appendix A for GVWD source water pH levels.

yah i heard you the first 7 times you said this already.

the best advice i can give you is to call another pet store and listen to what they say, maybe they can sell you some more products :)

Well, this post had been useful to me at least...I didn't know that waste ph. That explains my mysteriously dropping ph.
