Official TANKED (Television Show) Discussion Thread

I saw Fish Tank Kings, and I liked the episode more than any of the Tanked episodes so far...I've personally been to the stadium and seen the tanks in person, so I enjoyed the episode for that reason as well. I liked the segments with the fish geek when compared to the "equivalent" scenes in Tanked when the guys go pick out fish at the wholesaler...felt like they tried to have him mention at least some things about fish other than a complement on its appearance/color. I'm looking forward to future episodes. In regards to both shows, regardless of negatives others have said here, I like that it is attention for the hobby that will possibly get more people interested.

As for posts saying they want to see central american cichlids and things of that nature, I personally hope they don't do it...a tank filled with a bunch of big brown cichlids won't have a "wow" factor for the everyday viewer that wants to see colorful fish and impressive looking things like sharks.

Because every CA Cichlid is a brown lol

Have to be honest.. I like the show. i know it's "staged", afterall...what 'reality' type show ISN'T staged anymore?? There is a comedic value and it IS a show about fish tanks and anything that brings this to everyday people is good. The more people are into a great hobby like this, the more advancements is the work of fish keeping are created. On a side note, I did see in one of my regular shops some products from ATM. Apparently, they are selling their own line of fish care products with the ATM label. (Not that I would spend the extra $$ for the name).

You do know that is the generalization as perceived by what the non-fishkeeping public sees when compared to the types of SW fish they stock in tanks in shows like this. I've always kept cichlids since I've been in this hobby, and when I kept various Viejas and Parachromis and various other CA cichlids, non-fishkeepers that would come into the house would not be impressed by these fish other than "oh they're big, good enough to eat"...however, in my stepdaughter's little "nemo" tank people were drawn to the colorful damsels, clowns and such.

I know my statement was a broad generalization, but the point is that what is appealing to people who are into CA cichlids is not probably going to appeal to a regular tv viewer.

I'm curious to know how much one of those tanks costs... and what about maintenance? I couldn't imagine being the one responsible for maintaining some of those bad boys.

They are spendy!! I quoted about a 400G and it was 6K from them.

Whoa... is that just the tank or does that include delivery and setup as well? I think it would be cool to have a custom tank made but it looks like I'm going to stick with craigslist. :)
