Thanks! I want to get a mangrove really bad but my first attempt died like in 5 mins, lol. I guess not enough light, even though it was under two open (south-facing) windows. And my privet did great there over the winter....I know there was plenty of nutrients for it in the water, as that's the reason I got it in the first place. Oh and I know I need a red one. I did not know, however, that there were two types before reading this.
A note on the root binding. Its my understanding that a lot of trees don't like to be root-bound and that will actually kill them. That's why you cut the roots. I cut the roots on my bonsai once so far (have to get around to doing it again) and cut the roots on my agave and aloe before I repotted them. Its not that intimidating. Just don't take too much!
