Thanks! I want to get a mangrove really bad but my first attempt died like in 5 mins, lol. I guess not enough light, even though it was under two open (south-facing) windows. And my privet did great there over the winter....I know there was plenty of nutrients for it in the water, as that's the reason I got it in the first place. Oh and I know I need a red one. I did not know, however, that there were two types before reading this.

A note on the root binding. Its my understanding that a lot of trees don't like to be root-bound and that will actually kill them. That's why you cut the roots. I cut the roots on my bonsai once so far (have to get around to doing it again) and cut the roots on my agave and aloe before I repotted them. Its not that intimidating. Just don't take too much!

I think there are actually at least 3 types, I've heard of White Mangroves too. G'luck with them though!

Root binding, pffft! j/k I see your point, but I don't think I could ever repot them in these planters once I pull them out. And I think part of Hydrophyte's success with mangroves is due to them having at least some "soil" under them, not just the styrofoam-platform that I've seen most try.

I've never heard of a white mangrove...hmm...

That would make sense that they would want the soil to grow in. When I got mine, it was just floating in a tank. I brought it home and put it in my filter with my rubble rock and then it died like an hour later. (and yes, I acclimated it) I would imagine that you can upgrade the planters to match the growth of the plant, is this correct? Is Hydrophyte still around? I may have to shoot him a PM if he is....

Yeah I think there is a Pink Zebra Mangrove variety too!

I could repot them in larger pots, but I have limited amount of tank-wall space so I want to keep everything in small pots.

I'm pretty sure Hydro is still around. If not his website still is http://ripariumsupply.com/

Finally gave them a "scale" bath and took some pics with measurements...

The big guy:

This one has started putting out smaller leaves closer together, I wonder if its from pinching:

I plan on starting to "train" this one to lean:

And here's a couple of my MONSTER Cat Palm:

And the small Cat Palm growing out the side (one of these days I'm gonna separate it):

My Bacopa is making a slow, but healthy come-back:

I also have some "new" additions -

I potted a couple of pieces of Peace Lily that my wife was throwing out:

And I have a few surprises to post tomorrow too...
