Ya, it was called The Contender. It was alright, but they didn't show full fights, just highlights if I recall.
The problem with doing heavyweights in the USA is that there aren't many good heavyweights in the USA currently. It would probably end up with mostly fat guys with no gas and no technique. Better off sticking to the lighter weights for now.

Something very similar was already done a few years ago.I don't recall the name of the show but Sugar Ray Leonard and Sly Stallone were the hosts.
That show was called the contender but they fought every episode so you couldn't build the fighters up for the viewers. I'm saying have them fight every month for at least six months do you can put actually cards on tv. Maybe the main and the co event would be heavyweights but the under card would be different weight classes.

You have some up in comers like
Bryant Jennings 17 -0
Deontae Wilder 29 - 0

You have the retreads
Tony Thompson 38 - 3
Malik Scott 35 - 1
Steve Cunningham 25 - 6
Seth Mitchell 26 - 2
Chris Arreola 36 - 3

Add one more guy, shoot it 24/7 style and I'll would watch the show and watch the fights.

I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and the host misheard the interview and thought pops said he'd cut off his head if his soon loses. Was ranting on and on about self decapitation. I was rolling. Hair retard, not head! Lmao

Honestly, I probably would watch, but I'd prefer to see up and comers as opposed to the older guys like Thompson (great fighter, don't get me wrong).

Agreed

But with the limited amount of fighter you need guys like that. Plus it could make a cool redemption story for one of the retreads as their final shot at making it.

It would just take the right network to make it happen. I think maybe a Spike or Maybe Fox Sports One can do it. I would love for it to be on NBC or something.
